Mahindra Scorpio 6-Speed Automatic, available again!

Mahindra dealers have confirmed that bookings are now being taken for the Scorpio Automatic, according to auto website Indiancarsbikes.inMahindra has sourced a new 6-Speed Automatic transmission from Bosch.

Mahindra used to source the erstwhile 6-speed automatic from Australian company Drivetrain Systems International (DSI). Supplies were interrupted when DSI was acquired by Geely from China, forcing Mahindra to look for an alternative supplier. The earlier Scorpio Automatic was also sold only in the top VLX trim level.

The Scorpio Automatic remains the cheapest SUV with an automatic transmission. However, the automatic variant has never been a strong seller. Perhaps the real reason behind the automatic is to target sales in foreign markets and serve as a learning exercise before the XUV500 AT is launched. Despite its age, the Scorpio continues to be a strong seller for Mahindra, clocking sales of 3,906 units last month.

The Scorpio AT 2WD is priced at Rs. 11.47 lakhs while the 4WD retails at 12.49 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
