Mahindra Thar with AVO suspension upgrade: Review after an 800 km trip

The vehicle performed superbly on the trip. Highways, bad patches and broken bits of the road are all handled with aplomb.

BHPian shankar.balan recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I did about 800 km up and down with a little local buzzing about, last Friday through Sunday (yesterday).

We were two people. Load as described earlier. Golf kits and suitcases etc.

I did NOT bother to change the settings of my Thar Suspension to make it one notch softer as I was thinking aloud earlier, that I would do.

The vehicle performed superbly on the trip. Highways, bad patches and broken bits of the road are all handled with aplomb. Comfort factor - absolutely no problem.

My friend who came with me has never sat in a Thar for such long distances and over all these types of roads and at these highway speeds.

Even he remarked on the comfort and handling offered by this AVO suspension upgrade. He did not complain of any fatigue at the end of the journey. Nor did I feel any.

We left the city of Coimbatore at 1100hrs sharp. We stopped at Sai Sangeet up the hill after the Thoppur Ghat and that Toll Booth etc, at 1345hrs for a wash, a coffee and a snack. We left there at 1420hrs sharp. And we were parked at my house in Bangalore at 1630hrs sharp. 17843 km done in my Thar since Feb 14, 2021.

With this suspension, at no point does the vehicle feel unsettled or skittery. Of course, one has to drive it at sane speeds considering its high GC, its high CG and the physics of its large and boxy nature.

Do not exceed 110-120kmph at the very maximum. If you value peace of mind, comfort, handling and overall safety, (and less wind/ slipstream noise) all of these driven by pure, un-adulterated common sense, then, this is the absolute max-speed rule with the new Thar.

If anyone tells you any different, simply don't listen.
