Maruti Suzuki to export cars (Baleno) to Japan

The Prime Minister of India has stated that Maruti Suzuki will manufacture cars in India and export them to Japan, Suzuki's homeland. He was addressing the India-Japan Business Leaders Forum. This will be the first time that Japan will import cars from India.

R.C. Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki has said that at the moment, the recently launched Baleno hatchback will be exported to Japan starting from January 2016. The company expects to ship out 30,000-40,000 units annually. Maruti had earlier revealed that it is planning to export the Baleno to more than 100 countries all over the world.

The Baleno was launched in India in October 2015. It is available with a choice of two engines:

1,197cc, 4-cylinder petrol, 83 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm @ 4,000 rpm

1,248cc, 4-cylinder diesel, 74 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm @ 2,000 rpm

While both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the petrol engine can be bought with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) as well.

In international markets, the Baleno is expected to be available with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine as well. This powerplant is capable of developing 109 BHP and 170 Nm of torque.
