Maruti Suzuki starts production & exports of Jimny from India

The first shipment of 134 cars has left the Mundra port for Columbia and Peru.

Maruti Suzuki has commenced exports of the Made-in-India Jimny. The first shipment of 134 cars has left the Mundra port for Columbia and Peru. Besides Latin American countries, the Jimny will also be exported from India to the Middle East and Africa.

With India as the production base for the Jimny, Maruti Suzuki aims to supplement capacity to meet global demand for the model.

The Jimny measures 3,645 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width and 1,720 mm in height. The car is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and uses either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.

Maruti Suzuki is said to be working on a 5-door version of the Jimny (codenamed: YWD) for the Indian market. It could be launched by July 2022.
