We bid adieu to our trusty 2010 Altis (1.8 GL) earlier this week. Handed her over to the new owner with a little under 121,000 KMs. Still drove perfectly with zero issues. The only work left pending was a cracked front bumper.
Other than scheduled maintenance and replacement of wear & tear parts, we've never had to touch any of the mechanical or electrical bits. Definitely a bitter-sweet feeling watching her being driven away, after driving her for over 12 years. Excited about our new car but missing the Altis already! I really wish Toyota decides to reintroduce the Altis in India (highly unlikely, I know).
I can't think of another sedan that offers the balanced package the Altis used to. Yes, the Altis was not a 'driver's' car. Yes, Toyota was stingy with its feature offerings. But the Altis was a car that offered you all the essential things needed to be a trouble-free long-term steed and could drive on till the earth stops spinning (with only scheduled maintenance), while carrying you comfortably over almost any road conditions without breaking into a sweat.
