Mumbai: BEST electric double-decker bus spotted

The Switch Mobility electric double-decker bus can cover 240 km on a single charge.

The all-electric double-decker bus for Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) fleet has been spotted.

The Switch Mobility double-decker e-bus seen in this image is yet to be launched in India. It seems, BEST will be among the first to induct them into their fleet.

Switch Mobility offers two variants of the double-decker electric bus. These include a 10.5 meter long MD10,500 and an 11.1 meter long MD11,140. While the former can seat up to 63 passengers, the long-wheelbase version has a seating capacity of 84. Having said that, the buses can carry up to 94 passengers.

Powering the Switch e-bus is an electric motor that develops 335 BHP and 22,000 Nm. It uses a 325 kWh battery pack that has a range of 240 km. It can be recharged in 3 hours using a 100 kW DC fast charger, while a 44 kW AC charger takes about 6 hours to refill the battery.
