My Chevrolet Sail UVA: Should I install iridium spark plugs

Iridium spark plugs are usually used in high-performance cars for their longevity. Would they be beneficial for 'normal' passenger cars?

BHPian ravisghosh recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hi Guys,

I am trying to replace the spark plugs and planning to upgrade to iridium spark plugs. However, having a real hard time finding compatible spark plugs.

The owner's manual doesn't list the specs of spark plugs. NGK or Denso websites don't list my car model (they mention other Chevy models though) and compatibility with their spark plugs. I pulled the old plug and got the model number, but can't reference it for compatibility with new spark plugs.

Can someone help me find the right spark plug?

Car: Chevrolet Sail UVA (Hatchback) 1.2 Petrol

Current Spark Plugs: Champion RA7YC 24102199

Here's what BHPian Indian2003 had to say about the matter:

This is a waste of money, the price being many times that of normal plugs. My old car came with Denso Iridium plugs as standard. They cost 30 euros each! Times 6 and it was 180 euros for 6 spark plugs.

I got the Brisk, all 6 for 30 euros. Brisk is the new name for the good old Iskra spark plugs from the Czech Republic. I never noticed any difference.

Brisk today delivers many of the sensors to the VAG Group.

Slightly off-topic,

Will the application of Iridium Plugs have any real benefit here?

I do understand, iridium plugs are better (and expensive), and they have their place in high-performance engines.

However, in a 'normal' passenger car, will we really see any of its benefits?

Here's what BHPian corvus corax had to say about the matter:

Iridium spark plugs are used for their longevity. They are used in sports bikes and cars in which reaching for them in places through the bodywork to change every few months can be cumbersome. It is yet to be proven beyond doubt that switching to rare metal plugs can improve performance. The same case goes with the fancy red plug adaptors, nylon lead wires and high voltage coils. Just stick with the regular plugs and you will be just fine.
