MG Motor has unveiled the new-generation iteration of its ZS EV SUV. The all-electric SUV was unveiled in China as the "MG ES5" and is expected to arrive in international markets very soon.
Reports state that the new-generation MG ZS EV could get a different name once launched in the UK. However, MG has yet to decide on a new name for the all-electric SUV. In addition to this, reports also state that the design could differ slightly from the Chinese-spec, although it will carry forward the family resemblance with other MG EVs - especially the MG4 SUV on which the electric SUV is based.
The new-gen MG ZS EV has a clean design with sleek LED DRLs with the main headlights positioned below, a large central air intake at the bottom of the front bumper, roof rails, conventional door handles, black cladding all around, large alloy wheels, and a full-width light bar with Y-shaped tail lights at the rear. The new ZS EV gets MG's large octagon chrome badge on the nose. Inside, the minimalist design continues with a large central touchscreen and a small digital instrument cluster.
The new MG ZS EV is said to be longer, wider, and lower than the outgoing model. The new-gen ZS EV measures 4,476 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,730 mm - 70 mm longer than the previous-gen SUV.
While the technical specifications of the new-gen ZS EV are yet to be officially announced, reports do suggest that the base model could get a 51 kWh battery offering 322 km of range. The higher-spec version could get a larger 77 kWh battery pack offering around 483 km on a single charge. The Chinese-spec MG ES5 is rear-wheel-drive, producing between 168 BHP and 242 BHP, depending on the variant.
Once it arrives in the international market, the new-gen MG ZS EV will be a direct rival to the Skoda Elroq and the Hyundai Kona Electric.
