Next-gen Suzuki Swift Sport spotted for the first time

After multiple spy shots of the 2017 Suzuki Swift surfaced on the Internet, the high-performance Swift Sport variant too has now been spotted testing in Europe. The new-gen model will be the first Swift Sport to come with a turbocharged engine.

The past two generations of the Swift Sport have featured larger, naturally aspirated engines. But with the new model, Suzuki is reported to be shifting to turbocharging. Hence, the 2017 Suzuki Swift Sport is expected to be powered by a 1.4-litre, turbocharged petrol engine, which was developed for the global-spec Vitara S. Under the crossover, this engine develops 138 BHP and 220 Nm of torque. But Suzuki engineers will likely retune the engine under the Swift Sport to develop a few more horses.

Cosmetic changes visible in the new spy shots include a larger air dam, LED daytime running lights, side skirts, and twin exhausts integrated in the rear bumper. The tyres too appear to be a size larger than what was visible in the regular Swift's spy shots.

The 2017 Suzuki Swift is expected to make its global premiere at this year's Paris Motor Show, while the high-performance Swift Sport may be launched later next year.
