Next-gen Toyota Fortuner imported to India for R&D

A big thank you to BHPian RavenAvi for sharing this information with fellow enthusiasts.

Toyota has imported a single unit of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner to India for research and development purpose (as found on Zauba). The vehicle imported is a 2.8L diesel unit. Internationally, the Fortuner is also available with a 2.4L diesel and a 2.7L petrol engine (though in India, we're likely to get the diesel engines only).

Now that Toyota is likely to begin testing the all-new Fortuner on Indian roads, expect spy pictures to flood the internet in the months to come.

The Fortuner has been dominating the premium SUV segment in India, ever since its launch in 2009. While it did get minor facelifts and engine + transmission updates, its appearance and interiors have largely remain unchanged. An all-new generation of this SUV made its global debut in Thailand recently and this version is likely to be launched in India only in 2017 (link to news article).
