NextEV launches NIO EP9 limited-run electric supercar

NextEV has introduced a new road car division named NIO, and has launched a limited-run electric supercar - the NIO EP9. The car has lapped the Nürburgring in a record time of 7 minutes and 05.12 seconds to become the fastest electric car in the world to lap around the 20.8 km circuit.

The NIO EP9 is powered by four high-performance inboard motors that are linked with four individual gearboxes. The system is capable of generating 1 MegaWatt of power, which translates to 1,341 BHP. The EP9 boasts of a 0-200 km/h acceleration time of 7.1 seconds, while the top speed is 313 km/h. It can be charged in 45 minutes and has a total range of 427 kilometers.

The NIO EP9 weighs 1,735 kg. It has a carbon chassis and body, and has been designed to handle the physical demands of a car with 3G cornering capabilities. The company claims of achieving 24,000 newtons of downforce at 240 km/h.

NextEV is planning to produce just six units of the NIO EP9.
