Porsche 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 launched in India

Porsche has launched two new cars in its 718 series of mid-engined sports cars. The two vehicles are the 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4 priced at Rs. 1,59,93,000 and Rs. 1,63,35,000 respectively.

While the GT4 is an entry-level GT, the Spyder is a convertible. Both cars are powered by a 4-litre, 6-cylinder, naturally aspirate petrol engine that generates 414 BHP and 420 Nm @ 5,000-6,800 rpm. The engine can revv to 8,000 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Cayman GT4 has a claimed top speed of 304 km/h, while that of the Spyder is 301 km/h. Both models can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.

The 718 Cayman GT4 has a fixed rear wing that is claimed to produce around 20 percent more downforce compared to its predecessor. The 718 Spyder has a rear spoiler that automatically rises at 120 km/h and a diffuser. Porsche claims that it is the first model in the Boxster family to generate aerodynamic downforce over the rear axle.

The 718 Spyder uses the same chassis as the 718 Cayman GT4. The cars come with Porsche Active Suspension Management damping system that lowers the ride height by 30 mm which in turn, lowers the car’s centre of gravity. This system can also be deactivated by the driver. The cars also get Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical rear differential lock.

Stopping power for the cars is provided by aluminium monobloc fixed-calliper brakes. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is also available as an option.
