Renault Kwid spotted testing without camouflage

Two test mules of the upcoming Renault Kwid hatchback have been spotted in Krishnagiri, near Bangalore. Both cars were wearing no camouflage whatsoever.

The Kwid will be the first Renault-Nissan Alliance model to use the company's Common Module Family - Affordable (CMF-A) platform. It measures 3.68 metres in length, 1.58 metres in width and has a ground clearance of 180 mm. The car has short overhangs and a high driving position. It has a rugged look with black plastic cladding on its doors, wheel arches and lower portion of the bumpers.

Coming to the interiors, the Kwid gets a 3-spoke steering wheel, digital instrumentation, and a centrally-positioned multimedia/navigation system with a 7-inch touchscreen.

Renault is expected to use a new 800cc, twin cam, three-cylinder petrol engine with 57 BHP on tap to power the Kwid. This engine is likely to come with manual and automatic transmissions. A larger petrol and a diesel engine might be introduced later.

The Kwid is Renault's entry-level hatchback. It will be pitted against the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon. Renault will launch the car in India in the second half of 2015. The company claims that it will be priced between Rs. 3 and 4 lakh. The car is also expected to be exported.
