Rumour: 8th-gen BMW 5 Series India launch this festive season

The new-gen BMW 5 Series LWB will rival the Mercedes-Benz E-Class in the Indian market.

According to a media report, BMW is likely to launch the eighth-generation 5 Series in the Indian market this festive season. The sedan will be available in its long-wheelbase version and will also get a pure-electric powertrain option.

The new-gen 5 Series made its global debut last year. It is slightly larger than the outgoing model, measuring 5,060 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,995 mm. The long-wheelbase version measures  5,175 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, 1,520 mm in height, and its wheelbase is 3,105mm.

Apart from the sharp-looking exterior, the new 5 Series comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The LWB version gets reclining rear seats, 4-zone automatic climate control, and a rear seat entertainment package with a massive 31.1-inch screen.

In India, BMW is likely to offer the 5 Series LWB with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engine options. Both engines will be paired with a mild-hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

We might get the i5 eDrive40 variant, which uses an 81.2 kWh battery, offering a maximum range of 582 km on a single charge.

The new-gen BMW 5 Series LWB will compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class in the Indian market.
