Rumour: Baleno-based Toyota hatchback launch around June 2019

According to a media report, Toyota is likely to launch a Maruti Baleno-based hatchback sometime around June 2019.

Toyota's version of the Baleno is reportedly codenamed as A11. Component suppliers have already started dispatching parts for the car. It is expected to be built at Toyota's Bidadi plant in Karnataka.

The Toyota A11 hatchback is likely to be a re-badged version of the Baleno. It could get a redesigned front grille, bumpers, headlights and tail lights.

Reports suggest that Toyota A11 will only be offered with a petrol engine, unlike the Maruti Baleno which comes with three petrol and one diesel engine option. These include a 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol, 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.2-litre DualJet with Smart Hybrid. Additionally, the Baleno also comes with a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine.

As part of an agreement between Toyota and Suzuki, the latter will be supplying the Baleno, Ertiga, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza to Toyota. The two carmakers are also developing a new C-segment MPV, while Toyota will supply its hybrid systems to Suzuki.
