Rumour: Mahindra 2.0L diesel to come in three states of tune

According to a media report, Mahindra is working on a BS-VI compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine that is expected to replace the current 2.2-litre diesel unit. The new engine is expected to be available in three states of tune.

The next generation Mahindra Thar is likely to be powered by the new 2.0-litre diesel engine with an output of 138 BHP and 300 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the next generation XUV500 could get a tuned version of the same engine with 182 BHP, while a 158 BHP version is rumoured to power the Scorpio.

The new 2.0-litre unit is likely to use an aluminium block which could make it lighter than the current powerplant. The new engine is said to be 80 kg lighter than the 2.2-litre mHawk.

As part of their partnership with Mahindra, Ford is expected to build an SUV based on the next generation XUV500. It is also likely to use the same 2.0-litre diesel engine.
