Rumour: Mahindra could replace Xylo with all-new global MPV

Utility vehicle major, Mahindra is rumoured to be working on an all-new MPV at its North American Technical Center in Michigan, US. The company has hired more than 35 engineers for the new car's development at the R&D facility.

Mahindra is likely to use this vehicle to replace the slow-selling Xylo. The MPV segment, which is dominated by the Toyota Innova and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is growing at a good pace. Honda and Datsun are gearing up to join the race as well with the Mobilio and GO+ respectively. Compared to the other vehicles in the segment, the Xylo is bulky and not as driver-friendly. If the vehicle is to become successful with private buyers, it needs to be car-like to drive. The new MPV is expected to offer better handling than the Xylo.

The new MPV is likely to go on sale in 2017 and India will be the first market to get it followed by other countries.
