Rumour: Marazzo-based Ford MPV to get 2.2L diesel engine

Ford's Innova Crysta rivaling MPV to get the 2.2L mHawk diesel engine.

Ford is developing an MPV to compete with the Toyota Innova Crysta. It will share its underpinnings with the Mahindra Marazzo. It has now been reported that instead of the 1.5-litre diesel engine, Ford's MPV will get a 2.2-litre unit.

The said engine is the same mHawk 2.2-litre diesel engine that was introduced in the new Mahindra Thar. It puts out 130 BHP and 320 Nm and comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The same engine is expected to be offered in the next generation XUV500 and Scorpio.

While the Ford MPV will be based on the Marazzo platform, it is unlikely to be merely a badge re-engineering exercise. Reports suggest that the car will feature completely different bodywork and styling. It will have a unique interior with multiple seating options and will come equipped with the Ford Sync infotainment system.

As part of the joint venture, the two carmakers are jointly developing new models including a new B-segment SUV. Ford's version of the next generation XUV500 is also on cards.
