Rumour: Toyota RAV4 to be launched by mid-2021

According to a media report, Toyota is planning to launch the RAV4 SUV in India by mid-2021. It will be imported in limited numbers as a completely built unit (CBU) under the rule that allows carmakers to import 2,500 units without having to go through the homologation process.

The Toyota RAV4 is based on the TNGA platform. It measures 4,600 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, 1,685 mm in height and its wheelbase is 2,690 mm.

The RAV4 features quite an aggressive look. It has a typical Toyota grille and squared-off wheel arches. The SUV has black interiors and has a floating touchscreen infotainment head-unit in the centre. The screen has physical buttons on either side. The 3-spoke steering wheel and twin-dial instrument cluster are pretty conventional.

The RAV4 is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain producing 216 BHP. The engine comes paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and has all-wheel drive.

Back in July 2020, Suzuki had showcased a RAV4-based SUV called the ACross.
