Saved 1.20 lakh by restoring my CLA's faded steering wheel logo myself

I decided to paint the Mercedes logo red as it would match the paint colour of my car and thus wouldn't look out of place.

BHPian vattyboy recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

My Mercedes CLA steering wheel emblem's polish has faded away with time, cannot conclude the reason behind this as I never faced this issue in my other cars. I can't comment on whether the car wash service centre applied bad interior polish or Emblem Quality is bad from the factory. God knows.

First thing I did was to call the ASS and shared this issue with them, as my car was out of warranty they told me - The whole steering wheel Airbag Module needs to be changed and It will cost around 1.20 lakh rupees.

Next searched online and learned about Coating Daddy Removable Rubber Paint and ordered it. It costs just Rs 200 + Rs 120 shipping charges.

Another option was Plasti-Dip but it is not easily available in India. On Amazon, it was priced close to Rs 7000.

The next contender was Rust-oleum and there were few colour options available on Amazon.

Here's the link to Coating Daddy. There are many colour options available.

Rubber Paint and Masking Tape

Carefully covered all the Areas for Painting

As the chrome colour option is not available so I thought the best colour option for me was a red colour as it will match the exterior red paint of my car and will not look out of place. You can buy any colour you like.

After 3 coats

After 4 coats

Started Peeling it

Final Result

After peeling the paint off, I cleaned the area with a wet cloth also to remove all the residue.

Will buy toothpicks from the market tomorrow and give the last finishing to the edges.
