Serviced my RE Electra at 1,31,000 km: Details of tasks performed

The service interval I was following anyway was every 4-5k kms or two years since the bike covers just around 2k kms every year.

BHPian tharian recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

The bike has run 1,31,000 kms today and a long due service was completed as well. It was a confusing decision on where to give the bike for service this time. The last service was in Aug 23' and the bike had run 3,200 kms since. The service interval I was following anyway was every 4-5k kms or two years since the bike covers just around 2k kms every year.

I had visited this certain garage few times to get the chain tightened and lubed and had seen similar vintage bikes as mine parked there every time. I used to avoid him because of some smart talk he used to give years ago when I used to go there for some minor work. Probably because of the rivalry he had with my old late mechanic.

Decided to drop it off here since it was convenient for me as well. It was just oil change including the clutch oil, rear brakes sticking and the headlamp not working. It was ready the next day and the bike was looking good. He had also used some silver spray to cover up the rust on the rims. The headlamp holder was replaced since it was broken and now I have light after a long time. The rear brake shoe was replaced. The good thing about this place was since it is an authorized service centre, I don't have to worry about the parts being low quality.

The engine oil used was semi synth oil used by RE and I am not sure if that will be good on my bike since it is used to mineral oil from the beginning.  Because the the engine kicked back once or twice, the chief mechanic fiddled with the carb tuning and messed up the tune which wasn't required since it was running fine. I got it back to a some what acceptable tune for now and need to fine tune it as I use it.

The last fuel efficiency was 26 kmpl which means the tuning was perfect before.

He also suggested me to change the ignition system to TCI from CDI to avoid the kickbacks which is actually very rare on my bike. It does so when someone who doesn't know the bike tries starting it. The reason I would look at it changing it is because the CDI unit for this model is difficult to get now and I would rather go for the old CB points ignition instead when I have to.

The bike felt better today after fixing the tune as it had smoothened out.

The brake light switch in the tool box needs to fixed as well. For now it works, but intermittently.

Bike is fine otherwise and the engine continues to run perfectly.
