Shifting permanently to Delhi: What to do with my TN-registered Activa?

I understand NOC is required if I want to get it registered in Delhi. But what if I dont do it?

BHPian kaak009 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Hi Bhpians,

I purchased my Honda Activa 125 in Chennai last year. The vehicle is primarily used for my office runs, and I hail from Delhi. Now I am leaving my current organisation and moving back to Delhi. In the current setup the vehicle is TN registration with the RC address being aligned to my rental place in Chennai.

Next month I will be moving out hence wanted to take the scooter back with me. There are 2 major concerns/opinions I require help with.

1. How should I get it transported, I know about train parcel thing but I feel the process is too lengthy and cumbersome for me. So any thoughts and recommendations on a Bike Transporter which is fairly reliable would be a big help

2. Now from the RC standpoint, I understand NOC is required if I want to get it registered in Delhi. But what if I dont do it? I know I can ply on roads for 12 months and people usually aren't bothered for years as well. But what about the fact when I need to sell the vehicle? The RC still will be showing TN so what will be the implication?

I would be really grateful if Delhi members and Chennai members can pitch in for best help in this situation

Thanks!

Transporting a scooter by train is your best option. It sounds tiresome but its the easiest and cheapest. Remove mirrors and get it packed outside station. Transporting by a goods carrier is expensive, slow and super risky. I transported my superbike from Bengaluru to Bhilai by goods carrier vehicle and they charged Rs. 25000 and broke a mirror which costed me another 10000 for replacment. NOC is a must if you want to sell it later on to avoid liability in case of accidents by next owner.

Here's what BHPian Mr.U replied:

You can apply for an NOC now and get it registered in Delhi or you could ply it with TN plates and get a NOC from your current RTO when you plan to sell the scooter.
In Delhi the cops do not bother people with out of state registered cars and bikes, that being said you will be more likely to be stopped for checking but not really be harassed for having an out of state vehicle.
Do also note that its a pain to try and sell a out of state registered vehicle specially a two wheeler. I have a bike that I want to sell which is registered in MH that I am using in PB and I have been struggling to get anywhere with it.

Here's what BHPian Turbanator replied:

No one bothers if you are running TN plates in Delhi. You can continue to use it until it's time to sell or retire (15 Years rule)

Also consider, selling it in Chennai and buying something newer in Delhi (Electric/ newer model?)

Here's what BHPian rajeevsulu replied:

It would be much easier for you to sell your scooter here and buy some new vehicle there in Delhi.

You save the hassle of transportation,re registration in one shot.

The dealer would do the registration for the new vehicle anyways.

Cheers
