Suzuki Avenis 125: Peculiar stalling issue frustrates me to no end

I'm wondering what to do because Suzuki ASC won't check on the issue unless I give it for a proper service and I am afraid to find an outside mechanic fearing it'll get worse.

BHPian Irondrago56 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I have a 2022 Suzuki Avenis, I've done about 16,200KM and my Last service (6th Paid) was done at 14,800 KM at the end of November 2023.

I have been having an issue where my Avenis won't start unless I give it throttle and It won't stay idling. Even when I come to a stop, the scooter just dies. There are no Check engine lights or anything on it. It started as an Intermittent issue early January but ended up becoming worse towards the end of the month.

I'm wondering what to do because Suzuki ASS won't check on the issue unless I give it for a proper service and I am afraid to find an outside mechanic fearing it'll get worse. At the moment, my Avenis is the only vehicle I have and I need it for day to day commute. I am planning to give it for a full service this weekend, just wondering what I can expect.

Any idea what could be causing this issue or if any other Avenis owner has faced the same issue I'm facing?

Here's what BHPian saket77 had to say on the matter:

Had a similar issue in my Activa. I got a complete service done and air filters + foam filter replaced. Probably changing the filter took care of this issue as it was resolved by itself post this change. If it had not, I would have asked the mechanic to slightly increase the idling RPM but then that may not be possible in your fuel injected model.

Hope that changing clogged filters would help in your case too. Mention the issue to the mechanic if you don't see it correcting after service there only. Don't ignore this issue as these scooters getting stalled on roads is a risky situation as unlike bikes, you can't use the self starter while on the go- you need to hit the brakes to activate the starter and this can cause someone to rear end you.

Here's what BHPian shancz had to say on the matter:

Since Avenis is same as the Access internally here's a place where you can find some familiar and hopefully useful info (The Suzuki Access 125 thread).

Going back to the basics of keeping it running :

  • Air : A choked air filter could cause this but less likely since you've been servicing it regularly. If it is ask your ASC what exactly do they do in service.
  • Fuel : could be damaged pipes(as it was in my case), or the FI unit, I am guessing you would still be in warranty ?
  • Spark : Doesn't seem like the case since its able to operate with more than usual throttle

I wouldn't suggest to take it outside, just give it to the ASC as they've been servicing it since the start and would've access to parts and technical know how.

I do find the "won't touch unless you give it for service" thing quite weird. You can send it for running repairs but since you're nearing a service interval so its okay for now.

I had a similar issue once with the Access(BS4/carb) and it turned out to be a damaged fuel line.

For any battery related issue, first check if it starts with the kick. If it easily does then its the battery. Your battery should've been under warranty then, if not then tough luck. BS6 versions have reported a lot of battery issues.

Anyway that ship has sailed.

Can't recall, it should be on your manual and probably changed from when I purchased.

Somehow I don't get a very positive feeling about your ASC, let them sort this out but I would suggest to look for another ASC as a backup or even for second opinion.

I assume you are already doing it but don't let the fuel drop below 2 bars as it runs the risk of the fuel pump failures.

With your FI factor I would also suggest to stick with Suzuki ASC and religiously follow their schedule as long as the warranty lasts. Get clarity and status of your warranty from the ASC too. Post that you can shift to fully synthetic/6 months as an optimal time to visit.

Typically Hero and Bajaj price their spares well but Suzuki isn't particularly expensive

BHPian IronDrago56 had the following update to share:

So I've gone to the SVC and they're thinking it's a bad Throttle Position Sensor or Clogged Throttle body. They're telling me to leave it and go and I probably won't get it for 2 days. They told me to bring it here and they'll fix it on the spot but looks like it isn't happening. Thanks a lot Suzuki.
