Tata Tigor launched at Rs. 4.70 lakh

Tata Motors has launched the Tigor compact sedan in India at prices starting from Rs. 4.70 lakh for the petrol range and Rs. 5.60 lakh for the diesel line-up (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will be available in four trim levels - XE, XT, XZ and XZ(O).

Tigor is the third car to feature Tata's new IMPACT design philosophy, after the Tiago and the Hexa. It is essentially a compact sedan sibling of the Tiago. As a result, the Tigor shares its platform and engine options with the hatchback.

The exterior design has been inspired from that of the Tiago, especially at the front. However, the Tigor gets revised headlight assemblies with projector setup. The side profile is characterised by a sloping roof line that merges in the boot lid. The rear gets a slightly jutting out boot, wraparound LED taillights and a chrome strip in the middle. The Tigor will be available with 6 colour options - Espresso Brown, Pearlescent White, Berry Red, Platinum Silver, Striker Blue and a new shade of Copper Dazzle.

The Tigor is 3,992 mm long, 1,677 mm wide and 1,537 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm and a ground clearance of 170 mm. The sub-4m sedan has a boot space of 419 litres. The petrol variants tip the weighing scale at 1,062 kg, while the diesel Tigor weighs 1,130 kg. The petrol XZ and XZ(O) trims come with 15-inch alloy wheels shod with 175/60 profile tubeless tyres, while the corresponding variants of the Tigor diesel get smaller 14-inch alloy wheels with 175/65 profile tubeless tyres.

The dashboard layout is identical to that of the Tiago. However, the Tigor's top-end XZ(O) trim gets a new touchscreen infotainment system by Harman with navigation and reverse camera as well as a new automatic climate control system. Meanwhile, the XT and XZ variants continue to feature a 2-DIN ConnectNext infotainment system.

The Tigor comes with anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and corner stability control (CSC) on the XT and above trims. Meanwhile, dual airbags are available only on the XZ and XZ(O) variants.

Powering the Tigor are the same engine options that are found on the Tiago hatchback. These include a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that churns out 84 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm and a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine rated at 69 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm @ 1,800-3,000 rpm. Both these engines are currently available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
