Tesla has unveiled its latest all-electric performance car. The Roadster is claimed to do 0-97 km/h in 1.9 sec, 0-161 km/h in 4.2 sec and has a quarter mile time of 8.9 sec. Top speed of the car was told be in excess of 400 km/h. Prices of the second-generation Roadster start at US$ 200,000 and the first 1000 limited edition cars will be available at US$ 250,000.

The first-generation Tesla Roadster was the first electric sportscar produced by the company in 2008. The second-generation Tesla Roadster is a four-seater convertible electric car. It features a removable glass that can be stowed in the boot. At the front, it gets an air dam that is positioned at the bottom. Thin headlamps get day time running lights and the Tesla logo sits in between them. At the back, it gets an adjustable wing that gets deployed depending on the speed and other road conditions. The rear lights are L-shaped and thin just like the headlamps. The Tesla Roadster was designed by Franz von Holzhausen, formerly of Mazda.

Although it gets four seats, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla told at the launch that the car will at best be a 2+2-seater one. The driver gets a rectangular steering wheel like the formula one cars, although there are no buttons present on it. The center console consists of a curved touchscreen system, similar to the ones present in the other Tesla cars.

Three electric motors drive the car. Two motors at the back and one in front provide power to all the four wheels. The roadster will come shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. It gets a 200 kWh battery, which is double the one found in Tesla model S P100D. The torque at wheels is claimed to be 10,000 Nm. Tesla claims a 1,000-km range at highway speeds. Additionally, in a tweet, Elon Musk confirmed that these specs are for the base model and special option package will also be available. The car is stated to go into production in 2020.
