Tesla to use 'F1 pit crew technique' to service its cars

The new announcement from Musk comes on the heels of Tesla stating its renewed focus on service.

Tesla is said to be working on achieving same-hour service for its vehicles, using "Formula 1 pit crew techniques", as hinted by Elon Musk. The company CEO recently made the announcement on social media that he is working towards achieving same-hour service of its vehicles as often as possible.

The new development seems to be on the same lines as Elon Musk's plans back in 2015 when he hired Kenny Handkammer - a 25-year F1 veteran & former Red Bull Chief Mechanic. Handkammer was brought in as the global director of service innovations and was asked to introduce new service programs. One such program introduced was F1-inspired 'fast lanes' at service centres to help curb waiting times.

The new announcement from Musk comes on the heels of Tesla stating its renewed focus on service. According to reports, Tesla's customer fleet is growing at a much faster pace than its service infrastructure. Hence, the company is aiming to make a majority of appointments for same-day repairs. Elon Musk is also said to have looked at all the different repair data and believes most of them can be done on the same day as long as the parts are available at the service centres.

However, Musk or Tesla are yet to elaborate on how it plans to achieve same-hour service.
