Toyota expected to launch Hilux in India in the coming months

The Hilux shares its underpinnings with the Innova and Fortuner. It will compete with the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross in India

In August 2020, there was a report that Toyota was looking to introduce the Hilux pickup truck in India. Now, according to a media report, the Japanese carmaker is expected to launch the Hilux in the country in the coming months.

The Hilux shares its underpinnings with the Innova and Fortuner. It measures 5,285 mm in length and has a wheelbase measuring 3,085 mm. Both these figures are more than the MPV and SUV.

To keep costs down, Toyota is expected to use parts from the Innova and Fortuner on the Hilux. The pickup is also expected to use the same 2.4L and 2.8L diesel engines and transmission units from its siblings. While the front suspension is likely to be the same as well, the rear suspension will use a leaf spring setup instead of coil springs as the former is more suited to handling loads.

The Hilux will compete with the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross when it comes to our shores. Since it is expected to share parts with the Innova and Fortuner, Toyota should be able to keep its pricing competent.
