Toyota to launch HiAce in India this year

Japanese auto major Toyota has revealed that it will launch the HiAce in India. The company showed the vehicle last year at the Auto Expo and has displayed it again at the ongoing SIAM Bus and Special Vehicle Show.

The vehicle is sold in more than 140 countries and can be bought as a van or commuter bus with varying wheelbase lengths. It is available with a range of petrol and diesel engines depending upon the region it is sold in. In India, it is expected to be sold as a high roof, 10-seater bus with a 2,982 cc, D-4D diesel engine developing 134 bhp @ 3400 rpm and 300 Nm of torque @ 1200-2400 rpm and mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Safety equipment is expected to include 2 airbags and ABS.

In the past, the HiAce has enjoyed popularity in India among the affluent class, which should work in Toyota's favour. The vehicle will be launched in the country in 2015. It will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU).
