Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder launched in South Africa

The South Africa-spec Urban Cruiser does not get a hybrid AWD option and misses out on features like 360-degree camera and digital instrument cluster

The made-in-India Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has been launched in South Africa. The SUV is simply called the Urban Cruiser and is available in three variants: XS, XR and XR AT.

On the outside, the South African Urban Cruiser looks similar to the Hyryder sold in India. The car has a gloss black front fascia with LED daytime running lights on either side and headlamps mounted on the front bumper. It rides on 17-inch all-black alloy wheels.

Inside, the Urban Cruiser comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a conventional twin-pod instrument cluster with a large MID in the centre. The SUV also gets features like automatic climate control, cruise control, engine start/stop button, keyless entry and 6 airbags. Surprisingly, it does not get a 360-degree camera or even a digital instrument cluster.

The Urban Cruiser is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 101 BHP and 138 Nm. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. There is no hybrid version on offer and neither does it get AWD.
