Volkswagen Tiguan to launch in India on May 24

Volkswagen will launch the Tiguan SUV in India on May 24, 2017. It will be launched as a 5-seater and is expected to be offered in two variants - Comfortline and Highline.

The Tiguan is based on Volkswagen Group's MQB platform. It is said to be around 50 kg lighter than the previous-generation model. The production-spec model of the Tiguan was recently spotted outside Skoda's production facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. These spy shots revealed that the Tiguan will come with LED headlights with DRLs, a wide grille with chrome accents that stretch into the headlight assemblies on each end.

The interiors will feature an all-black dashboard. The centre console will be slightly tilted towards the driver and will house wedge-shaped AC vents, a touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control. The steering wheel will have a flat bottom and piano black inserts on its three spokes.

The India-spec Tiguan will be powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TDI diesel engine that will churn out 147 BHP. Transmission duties will be handled by a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The VW Tiguan is expected to compete against the Hyundai Tucson and the upcoming Jeep Compass.
