Volkswagen Vento TSI feature sheets surface ahead of launch

Volkswagen India is said to have plans of launching the TSI engined Vento sedan in the coming weeks. The Vento TSI is likely to borrow the 1.2 liter TSI turbo petrol engine, the likes of which is already found on the Polo GT TSI. This 4 cylinder engine outputs 105 PS-175 Nm, and will serve as a replacement to the Vento's 1.6 liter MPI petrol engine (105 PS-153 Nm) that's naturally aspirated. Compared with the 1.6 MPI motor, the 1.2 TSI engine outputs a higher amount of torque. Also, the 1.2 TSI motor is likely to deliver high fuel efficiency due to plenty of low end torque available. 

Team-BHPian Salman_Ferrari has posted the feature sheet of the Vento TSI. From the feature sheet, it is evident that the 1.2 TSI motor of the Vento will be paired to a 7 speed DSG dual clutch automatic gearbox. Therefore, the Vento TSI is likely to replace the Vento AT, which features a 6 speed conventional torque converter automatic gearbox. It remains to be seen whether Volkswagen will discontinue the MPI petrol engined variants of the Vento once the TSI engined variant makes its debut in India. Globally, Volkswagen plans to discontinue naturally aspirated petrol engines in favour of turbocharged units within the next 3-4 years.This strategy has already begun playing out with the Polo TSI, and will continue with the Vento TSI. 

When launched, the Vento TSI will be the second C-segment car in the Indian car market, after the Fiat Linea T-Jet, to feature a turbo petrol engine. In future, expect more and more sub-10 lakh rupee cars in the Indian car market to jump onto turbo petrol technology in a big way.
