Why I wont buy a Jeep Compass: My story of 4 failed pre purchase PDIs

My only condition to the dealer was to give me a newly manufactured grey color car. They agreed and so I sold my Kia Seltos.

BHPian DivyanshuDiv recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Time to share my horrible experience with Jeep Compass PIDs.

Some background story:

I was looking to replace by 2022 Kia Seltos IVT with a car that provided a better seating and driving experience, so finalized the compass Model S. My only condition to the dealer was to give me a newly manufactured grey color car. They agreed and so I sold my Kia Seltos. After booking the car in the mid of September, the salesperson apprised that the grey color is not getting manufactured by Jeep, and black was in-transit. After considering a lot, I agreed but subjected to PDI, if all goes well.

Failed PDIs:

When we started the inspection with external PDI guy, the car VIN showed SEP’24, but had scratches, outside on metal and plastic parts, inside, especially the piano back for badly scraped with many dust contaminations, paint and panel issues.

I requested the dealership since these things won’t get sorted, to help me with the colour of my choice, which I checked directly with Jeep India, and was available as well. I then booked the inspection again for the Grey car, and this was an OCT’24 model. However, when we were looking at the car itself, we found a broken part, pain chips, lots of dust contamination, again the piano black was scratched, doors had alignment issues, the left side of dashboard had literally enough space to insert a pen or finger, the list goes on and on. It felt like a year-old car to me. This car was also rejected. Even the salesperson was shocked to see such QC issues.

At this point, I almost lost my patience and requested them for a refund, but they insisted to check a Silver color which was in stock and has no such issues. After constant pressure from the dealership, I agreed, and went for the 3rd PDI, which again had issues but then I accepted the car and asked them to prepare the car for delivery. At this point, the happiness and enthusiasm factor was almost gone. Just before the time of delivery, and before making the payments, I was asked to check the car post ceramic coating, and to my surprise, they scratched the entire B pillars which was in glossy black into a horrible state. With no options left, I had to cancel the entire engagement and asked for a final refund. I did escalate this thing to Jeep India, where they deleted one of my post but took immediate action to fix it. Again, the dealership top shots connected with me and offered me a Silver car, but on the 4th PDI, we found three panel were repainted.

I felt so hopeless that without much fuss, wrote an email, and took my refund. I could easily sense why they don’t sell so well, and why there are so many QC issues with the car, after my experience with four Compass.

I always wanted to buy a Jeep, but my dreams, my expectations and aspirations were all shattered because of unacceptable issues reported with all cars offered to me.
