Yamaha trademarks YZF-R9 moniker in India

In terms of styling, the R9 could follow the design language of the Yamaha YZF-R7 that has also inspired the recently launched R15 V4.

Yamaha has trademarked the YZF-R9 moniker in India. This could mean that the sportbike could eventually be launched in our country.

Although the Yamaha YZF-R9 has not been revealed yet, the nametag has also been trademarked in Europe and Australia. This points to the fact that the Japanese two-wheeler giant could unveil the R9 in the near future.

Speculations say that the R9 could be based on the Yamaha MT-09 and, hence, draw power from the familiar 890cc, 3-cylinder engine that makes 117 BHP and 93 Nm. It might come equipped with a fully adjustable suspension setup and top-notch braking equipment.

The Yamaha YZF-R9 is expected to have the latest set of electronic rider aids such as a 6-axis IMU, multi-level traction control, wheelie control, riding modes, bi-directional quick-shifter, cornering ABS, etc.
