Ford Ranger pick-up truck spied in India

A test mule of the Ford Ranger has been spotted in India, raising speculations that Ford could be planning to launch the pick-up truck in India.

The Ford Ranger shares its underpinnings with the Endeavour SUV. It is a four-door vehicle with a loading bay at the rear. The images indicate that the test mule has a black grille at the front, smoked headlamps and is riding on black wheels.

The media report suggests that Ford could offer the Ranger with a 2.0-litre, turbocharged diesel engine. This unit produces 165 BHP and 420 Nm and could be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system. Just like the Endeavour, the Ranger could also get other hardware like locking differentials, active transfer case and systems like driving modes, hill-climb assist, hill descent control, traction control and rollover mitigation.

If Ford is indeed considering the Ranger for India, it doesn't come as a surprise as there is potential in the lifestyle vehicle segment as vehicles like the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross and the soon to be launched Mahindra Thar have shown. Toyota is also said to be evaluating the Hilux pick-up truck for India.
