Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS revealed at private event

The Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS has been spotted on test runs on several occasions. In May, it was seen at a dealership as well leading us to believe that it could be launched soon. However, the company has not yet introduced it in the market. Now, Bajaj Auto has revealed the bike at a private event, which could be a dealer briefing.

The Pulsar 200 SS has a full fairing and resembles the Pulsar 400 SS, which was displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo. It shares its platform with the Pulsar 200 NS and has features such as twin projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps and an underbelly exhaust.

The 200 SS is likely to be powered by the same engine as the 200 NS - 199.5 cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, single cylinder that puts out 23.52 PS @ 9500 rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque @ 8000 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. However, for the SS, Bajaj Auto could replace the carburettor with a fuel injection system.

Stopping power will be provided by single disc brakes on both wheels. An ABS unit might be provided as well. Suspension will be a telescopic fork at the front and monoshock at the rear.

Is this the full-faired Bajaj Pulsar 200?

During the unveil of the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS in early 2012, Bajaj Auto announced that a full-faired variant would follow the street fighter version. Nearly 2 years after that announcement, AutocarIndia is carrying a spyshot of what is purported to be a full-faired version of the Pulsar 200 NS. NS is an acronym for Naked Sports. With the Pulsar 375's launch also slated to happen in the coming months, the faired motorcycle could either be the Pulsar 200 or the Pulsar 375.

Given the blurry nature of the spyshot, it isn't clear as to whether the motorcycle in question is the full-faired Pulsar 200 or the Pulsar 375. From the skinny telescopic front forks, chances of the spyshot being that of the Pulsar 200 in full-faired guise are higher. A full fairing with revised headlamps are likely to be the major changes on the motorcycle. With Bajaj appending NS to the street fighter variant's name, the SS (super sports) moniker could be appended to the faired model's name.

The engine and transmission are likely to be retained and so could the case be with cycle parts. In street fighter guise, the Pulsar 200 NS features a 200 cc engine that uses an SOHC-4 valve head, triple spark ignition and a carburetor. This engine is mated to a six speed manual gearbox. In terms of cycle parts, telescopic front forks, a monoshock rear and twin disc brakes are standard on the unfaired Pulsar 200 NS.

The Pulsar 200 NS' street fighter variant features Bajaj Auto's value pricing strategy. If the full-faired version of the Pulsar 200 NS is priced ten thousand rupees or so higher than the street fighter variant, the motorcycle would still undercut less powerful motorcycles such as the Yamaha R15 Version 2.0 and the Honda CBR 150R.
