BMW R nineT recalled in the US

The BMW R nineT has been recalled in the United States for a swingarm issue that could potentially cause a crash. The company has issued a "stop-sale-recall notification to all dealers in US.

According to BMW, one or more bolts that connects the right-side swingarm pivot pin to the bike's frame may come loose. The bolt may not get tightened properly due to improper specification of the chamfer cutting process in the frame. Company claims that a production error at the supplier side is to blame for the issue.

As of now, 3,368 R nineT bikes manufactured during November 2014 - July 2017 and sold in the US are known to be affected by this issue. BMW will be notifying owners to get the pivot pin bolts replaced free of charge. The recall is said to begin on October 9, 2017.

This is the second time BMW Motorrad has issued a recall in 2017 alone. Back in July 2017, BMW had issued a global recall of the R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure bikes for a stanchion separation issue.
