Vespa VXL 149 & SXL 149 BS6 launched

Piaggio has launched the BS6-compliant Vespa VXL 149 and SXL 149 scooters in India. The Vespa VXL 149 is priced at Rs. 1,22,664 and the SXL 149 is priced at Rs. 1,26,650 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The VXL 149 and SXL 149 are the replacement for the VXL 150 and SXL 150. Both scooters are powered by a 149cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that produces 10.32 BHP @ 7,600 rpm and 10.6 Nm @ 5,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The scooters also come with 3 catalytic converters to reduce emissions.

Both scooters come with alloy wheels. They are equipped with a 200 mm ventilated disc brake at the front and a 140 mm drum brake at the rear and have ABS.

In terms of styling, the SXL 149 gets a slightly different front apron and a rectangular headlamp. It also has rectangular chrome mirrors in place of the circular mirrors that are offered on the VXL 149.

It is believed that the slight reduction in engine capacity from 150cc to 149cc could benefit the customer as the scooters now fall in a lower insurance bracket.
