Re: Mahindra Thar Launch on 21st December 2010. Update: Price on Page 2!

Congratulations to the whole team for making India's eagerly waited 'off-road' vehicle launch :-)). Hope to see an Urban-Thar variant soon.

It was nice to hear TBHP mentioned in their launch speeches.

My car comes in 10 days, as i am an impatient person when it comes to the purchase of my cars. The Thar was the longest wait i had just to know when it would be launched . The normal time for the delivery of the Gypsy is 6 weeks. I dont regret my purchase as the Thar and the Gypsy were the two cars of choice.
On a future date and with Mr.Behrams expertise and help, i will build a jeep.

It was only on sunday at the fiat meet that i chanced to meet Mr.Behram and he told me of the launch date. The damage was already done by then.
Cancel the booking man. Your heart is already poisoned. You will not be happy with a Gypsy now.

I have just underlined what I felt were important according to me to get done (that too without voiding the warranty). Even if one does not want to go the customization way, I hope they have electrical provisions for winch, extra lights at the front and back, power source for a GPS device inside the cabin etc. With a CRDe engine, one may not want to play with the wiring harness.

im sure to get all this done one has to buy a thar, register a thar, transport the thar to MM Customization Dept and wait for 2-3 months plus additional cost of 2 lakh rs to get all that on the list fitted into his/her thar!

MM customization dept is utter waste of time & money and their products (zombie creations) never see the day light!

there is plenty of talent on Tbhp to transform the stock thar into a "Mudzila Monster" (this name i have reserved for my white thar)!

Re: Mahindra Thar Launch on 21st December 2010. Update: Price on Page 2!

I am concerned that neither hard top nor AC is mentioned in the above list. Not to forget front facing rear seats.

Vinod/Behram, I sincerely hope you guys don't mean to subject us to the usual Mahindra customization department that has produced all those mutant ninja creations. What would be great is to identify/certify existing modification/customization workshop in each metro and authorize them do this work within warranty.

Having rebuilt a Jeep once, I know this. Customization is a highly iterative process, involving frequent interaction between the customer and the modifier. Handing off modification list along with a demand draft isn't how customization is done. That means my modifier has to be in Bangalore or Mangalore.

@Vinod: Is there a possibility of the customer choosing only certain items from the list mentioned instead of the whole package. Things that require straight replacement with the stock and can be done at the dealer end.

That is what Vinod said during his presentation. You can choose the level of customization that you want. And spike did allude to a hard top being developed (while discussing the Roplas hard tops) for the Thar. May be it is not ready yet.

Why are the rear seats not front facing? Is it because of some tax issue where if you cannot seat 7 people you pay more?
I understand having front facing seats would mean seating only 5 people.
If Mahindra can give me a Thar with AC and HT for 6.5 lakhs ex showroom PB, I am standing in line.

Me and all my team mates would rightly concur on his unstinting support, unswerving aggression and relentless passion in the evolution of this product.

PS- For me as a 24 year old, who learnt driving on a MM540DP witnessing its inception in a new avatar is truly an inexplicable feeling!
Well said Spike , you & DB Sir have a special place in our hearts too.

Passion is the binding force to us .

You & MM team are lucky to work with a true engineer , DB Sir . I have never seen such a person of relentless passion ( who works in auto R&D )

& about your age ,well 24 or 42 dosent matter, you have a knowledge that many of us ( 42+) dont have & that is Including me . In addition you are working in such a place ( auto R&D ) where you can extend your learning to no limits , ( I simply envy you for that )

Well , DB Sir , You & team have created something that is going to shake the offroading in India to the roots .

Nobody (manufacturer) would have thought of giving a 105 bhp engine to a 1600 kg kerb weight 4x4 vehicle & a IFS to a jeep (in India ) but DB Sir has done it & dared to make it a reality

Best of Luck & be prepared for more work (for future projects) as DB Sir is not going to sit back & relax

No, it is a CMVR issue. It will change the classification of the vehicle, that means lot more silent engine would be required, etc, etc.

Re: Mahindra Thar Launch on 21st December 2010. Update: Price on Page 2!

My heartful thanks to Mr. Mahindra for taking a decision on this long awaited "marvel".
BD Sir, Vinod, Spike, and the whole MM Thar team, a mere Thanks is just not sufficient to
convey all that emotion of gratitude for this wonderful 4x4 Marvel. Sorry! I am short changed on words.

You have done the best of both worlds (new & retro) without changing the MM540 DNA.

Team-BHP is just the perfect & true provider of inputs to such projects. No second thoughts.
Hope other Automobile corporates peek into the conversations here to better their products.

What more do I need? Thanks for launching it in Mangalore, in the initial lot.
I will TD and make the cut if finances go right.

The long long infinitesimal wait was worth it, each and every bit.

Thanks all, all over again
