My experience in the living room, rather than the car, is that good speakers can make cheap stuff sound better, within limits --- but nothing can improve the sound from bad speakers.

Guys i went to my neighborhood car accessories shop today to check out some HU`s and came back confused.
The guy showed me a Blau HU....Seattle MP57.
Here are the specs Blaupunkt Seattle MP57

It costs 8k and has a 2 year warranty.!
Really liked it ,especially the display.

The other option is Pio 6050 which retails for 8.5k in grey.
Which is better in terms of SQ and built quality ?
I know the Pio has USB advantage but i can manage with CD`s for the sake of better features and quality.

The Blau may have a better display, but that should be the least of your concerns in an Audio HU. I would suggest you compare both. I would pick the Blau for a more balanced sound while the Pioneer could work well with laid back speakers.

My current favorite (just got one for moms car) in this segment is the Kenwood 6539U (Rs 9500) which does everything (CD, USB, iPod, SQ) very well IMO.

@Gunbir

OT - Seems like your CD player in the car is stuck. It has been playing the Story so far - for a long time now !! Pls have mercy on Rod Stewert, he is getting old

I thought the Kenwood was much cheaper, is it not the same one that you put into the Land Rover for me ? Great VFM stuff !

Cheers

Sir am a sucker for good displays when it comes to HU`s.
Bought my current HU (pio 6750) for the display as well ,didn't even audition it.
Still i would like a good quality HU with decent SQ.

@faithless, if it were me, I'd take Gunbir's advise and get the Kenwood. But then it has always been form after function for me.

Between the Blau & the Pio, I'd personally go for Blau. I've never much liked the Pio's sound and I have liked how my old Blau HU sounded. Also, nobody can beat the quality, friendliness & availability of Blau's A.S.S.

If you will only keep to your front speakers + rear-speakers wallah setup, and if you will keep using Xplods, go right ahead and get the Blau. If you plan on upgrading the speakers and adding and amp later, think of the 6050. (I'd still go with the Blau though heh, heh)

I'm not very sure of the model numbers, but you might also find some JVCs with nice displays at around the 8K price point.

BTW, I do think this Blau has a better display than the Pio too

I do plan on changing the speakers but nothing too fancy ,maybe ill get compos but even that's not gonna happen anytime soon.
So i think blau is the right choice for me......will ask the dealer for an audition though and also look around for some nice JVC HU`s.
Thanks again.

Heh, poor Rod's been making appearances now and then in my CD player for a while now. I rediscovered his music after years and I just can't get enough. Anyways, it seems he changes women more often than I change CDs lol.

The Kenny we used in the Land Rover was a 5039U, great VFM @ 5K. But the 6539U is 9.9K retail (2 years warranty) and iPod direct to USB etc. I'm in love with this HU I tell you. I should shut up now before someone accuses me of representing Kenwood.

Ok guys as you know i upgraded my HU and as discussed here got the Blau Seattle MP57.

Blaupunkt Or Pioneer-dsc00507.jpg
Blaupunkt Or Pioneer-dsc03232.jpg

Initial impression is good but then somehow am not getting `the feel`.
I have to adjust the audio settings for almost every other song.!
The display is good but only in the demo mode ,otherwise its not what i thought it would be.
Plus you can only upload only a single pic at a time ,if you want to change the image then you`ll have to again insert the CD and upload another pic.!
Another small problem i faced was that 1-2 tracks (mp3 format) which play perfectly in my NHC`s pio HU dont even show up in the Blau.!
The not reading cd problem also happened once but got solved by inserting the cd again.

The shopowner is a friend so he has offered to change this for a Pio 6050.....i know i know i made a fuss about this but then i was not aware of all the things i mentioned above.

Still thinking what to do.

P.S - Sorry for the trouble Hydra.

Well the Blau made the decision easier for me.
It hanged while adjusting the audio settings.!
The display went off ,had to restart the HU again.

Guys ,am not trying to bash Blau here.....it has good built quality ,nice sound ,good A.S.S etc.
It just didn't work for me.

I blame just myself for this mistake ,should have done more research about this particular HU and should have auditioned it first.

Anyway ,here`s a pic of the new HU...

Good going, faithless! Congrats! What trouble, buddy? You must be kidding!

Looks like Blau's quality is going south these days. Too bad.

It is good you got a HU that gives you peace of mind. I wouldn't want to drive around with music playing, just waiting for something to go wrong.

Ashok,

I've just been around the block for CHEAAP ICE (10-13k budget only for HU+ front compos) - I'm finding most dealers drowning in Pio/Xplod/JVC but no Blau. I was otherwise leaning for the Pio 4050 (6k grey, 7.8k BW) and JBL GT5? for front. Even in grey, do I have any other hope for alternatives in Blau beyond pio/JBL?

What wouldja recommend?

/the vdi to be solo driven, with sub/rear speakers etyadi coming in a coupla months so just front should do.
//not intd in display but just decent SQ. Want upgradability and decent clarity at low vols, not uber bass etc. Just enough nice music in background for long highway runs
