| Saw this SUV on Gurgaon roads today. The car had rain and light sensors as the lights came on automatically under a flyover. The driver initially tried to speed off after seeing me click pictures. But stopped on the side, since there was a little traffic. If Mazda is to enter the Indian market soon, as has been speculated for a while now, could they launch with this product? Going by the current craze over compact SUVs in India, it wouldn’t be a far-fetched idea. The CX-5 is one of the newest models from Mazda, incepted only last year. Globally, the car is powered by either a 2.0L 155 BHP petrol engine or a 2.2L 147 BHP diesel engine, mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. We can safely presume that the diesel will be offered in India, if & when the SUV is launched here. The car has seating for 5 and up to 1,852 liters of cargo carrying capacity. The Mazda CX-5 competes with SUVs like the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson in the US, where it has sold over 20,000 units till date. In Japan, the car sold 8,000 units in the first month (Feb-March 2012), far exceeding Mazda’s expectations. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by GTO : 3rd August 2012 at 10:51. | Looks strangely like the Mazda CX-5. The logo imprint on the grill, and the grill itself, is unmistakably Mazda. Now who is planning get a Mazda into India? |

| BHPian | That's a Gurgaon registered number, doesn't the RTO there have a public database to check the make of the car and details? The car looks great, what segment would this be placed in? |

| BHPian | Great scoop. Agreeing with tushky. This is a test vehicle for sure. But I really hate its front part. ![]() |

| Senior - BHPian | Better late than never. Never really understood why Mazda did not leverage the Ford connection in India. The CX-5 is not a bad car to start with. Now how about that RX-8 to really get pulses racing eh? |

| Senior - BHPian | The RX-8 would not be a very good idea, one, it is going out of production, two it is inefficient and high maintenance (especially with respect to the performance it gives). I think Mazda is going for the efficient SUV track, if they are bringing this car to India. They have their very efficient (with no quirky stuff) petrol and diesel engines available on the CX-5, which if priced right can do very well in India. |

| Now that it is confirmed as Mazda CX-5, can some one please shed some light on the specs. If we are going to see the vehicle in the Indian market, lets have some info about the model, fuel and possibly the abroad price etc. |

| Senior - BHPian | In the US, it only sells with the 2.0 Skyactiv petrol engine. Produces around 150 bhp and has an average mpg of 28 or so. That is the best in class fuel efficiency for a non hybrid SUV. I also believe there is a 2.2 skyactiv diesel engine (available in Europe and Japan), produces around the same horsepower and delivers even better efficiency. True to all Mazda's it handles better than any other CUV in the segment. |

| Nice scoop! The new CX-5 is kind of an ideal model for Mazda to make its entry to our market. This is the first car to don their new KODO design language. Looks like the Yeti segment is going to be busy with a few more driver oriented cars like this, and the Ford Kuga. |
