re: Maruti Ciaz SHVS with Integrated Starter Generator & idling start / stop system. EDIT: Now Launched!

May be the plan is to stop the current diesel version from production and keep the SHVS versions only.

Yes you are correct, this is also mentioned in ET article below.

Ciaz, which will come with a Suzuki Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS), has a mild hybrid system mated with a 1.3 litre diesel engine. While the technology will be imported, the high import cost will be offset by the incentives given by the government through lower excise duty of 12.5 per cent and subsidy extension of Rs 12,000- Rs 13,000 under electric and hybrid vehicle policy of FAME, which will help the company save over Rs 1 lakh on the ticket price.

re: Maruti Ciaz SHVS with Integrated Starter Generator & idling start / stop system. EDIT: Now Launched!

Quote:
While the old Maruti Ciaz diesel had an ARAI certified mileage of 26.21Km/l, the Ciaz SHVS returns an outstanding 28.09Km/l. This effectively makes the Ciaz SHVS hybrid India's most fuel-efficient car.

Other than the introduction of the Ciaz SHVS hybrid diesel model, Maruti Suzuki is now also offering driver-side airbag across all Ciaz variants. However, V (O) trim - VDI & VXI - onwards, the Ciaz will also get dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) system as standard provisions.
Prices:

Ciaz SHVS VDi: Rs. 8.23 lakh.......... (8.25L)
Ciaz SHVS VDi (O): Rs. 8.37 lakh .... (Nil)
Ciaz SHVS VDi+: Rs. 8.81 lakh ........(8.86L)
Ciaz SHVS ZDi: Rs. 9.52 lakh ..........(9.70L)
Ciaz SHVS ZDi+: Rs. 10.17 lakh

SHVS prices as mentioned and the prices in the bracket are of the older Ciaz variant.

re: Maruti Ciaz SHVS with Integrated Starter Generator & idling start / stop system. EDIT: Now Launched!

oops! Just getting the older Ciaz with 75K Discount in next couple of days. Looking at the prices of new Ciaz, looks like I should have waited for a week before completing the formalities. With such reduced price, the delta between old and new variant would have been ~60k (As there will be no discount on new launches).
What can be done now? ?

Have attached the Old and New Prices and the difference. Must commend that Maruti have done a stellar job by increasing the mileage but reducing the prices.

PS : Old prices taken from Maruti Suzuki Website.

Ciaz SHVS prices

Just what the doctor ordered. Maruti has rightly decided to pass on the benefit to the customers. This will help them in competing Honda in the segment.

Wish they had launched this mild hybrid system on S-Cross first. Would have helped in pricing the car more competitively.

Maruti Suzuki sells 4156 Ciaz's in August. Now with this New CIAZ SHVS being priced competitively, it can edge closer to the Current Market leader.

Source please.

This may include SHVS test drive vehicles. So, actual number will be around 3K.

Ciaz may get affected by SCross. So, can't expect it outsell City any time soon.

Wonder what the hoopla is about, real world FE figures would actually give a better picture (that too vis a vis the competition and not earlier iteration of the Ciaz). Looks more of a marketing gimmick at first glance though.

Unlikely IMO, can't imagine much cross shopping between these two. The Ciaz comes across as a better package overall from a typical Indian mindset. And those who prefer the SCross, would be a different set of folks who would have been considering non maruti options instead.

It's not all altruistic. From what I understand hybrids (and even half-baked ones like the Ciaz SHVS) attract lower excise duty i.e. 12%, against 24%. So Maruti is able to lower the price.

I hope this car succeeds because it'll make the Hyundais and Hondas of the world wake up and try to do the same and we, the consumers, may get better technology in return.

Meanwhile, I am pretty sure that Ciaz will hit the top of the chart (atleast wrt Diesel sedan). Also with Maruti trying to launch hybrid on all 1.3 MJD going forward, expect the mileage war to break. Off course, Maruti did a great job in extending the benefits it got from the government to the buyers directly. Had it been Honda, the hybrid would have sold at a 1L premium over its non hybrid.
Although I feel , just because I will be taking pre hybrid in next couple of day. Hats off Maruti! Keep setting the trend clearly.

Also note that Mahindra didnt reduce the price of Micro Hybrid, however minuscule the technology is, it attracts lower tax from the government.

But we do have to consider the cost of additional equipment for the mild hybrid system. If the battery is Li-ion, then along with ISG, pulleys and extra wiring harness, cost impact to Maruti will be around Rs. 50k.

This is so shocking. For a car that sells good numbers they throw in a good technology and also upgrade it and actually reduce the price ?

Hope I am not dreaming and hope they follow the same trend in the upcoming Ertiga as I have been waiting for it.
