Re: 2013 Toyota Corolla- Not too Far Away

Because the Accord is a Ship in terms of size, it has an unbelievably nice back seat. Awesome width and tremendous legroom. While thats well appreciated in the Indian Market, one does wonder why Honda made it so big considering its main target market is the US. In the US they drive the car themselves and a backseat isnt the priority.

Re: 2013 Toyota Corolla- Not too Far Away

This is what the next corolla in India will look like. The Auris is the hatch form of the Corolla and im pretty confident we will get something similar in India in terms of the interior and face of the car-

(Mods can we please have the Toyota Axio thread and this thread merged as both are speculating what the next Corolla Altis will look like)

Re: 2013 Toyota Corolla- Not too Far Away

A couple of more images from similar source.
Wish that the new Corolla has independent rear suspension also ( from the image I am not able to make out whether its independent suspesion or not ).

IMO, its high time we have a replacement for corolla which is also priced cheaper than the current car. Currently, Corolla is priced on a very high side than what it should have been. A better diesel from BMW would also help than the current puny 1.4 which is certainly underpowered.

Re: 2013 Toyota Corolla- Not too Far Away

Neat looking car and is line with the new Camry's design language. Read : Lots of chrome . The front looks reminiscent of the Honda City , whereas the rear looks like that of the new Elantra. The alloy design looks very shoddy.

New Toyota Corolla for 2014

ACI have confirmed the new Corolla based on the Furia concept, albeit with toned down detailing will be launched in India in early-2014. Link to ACI Report here:

Re: New Toyota Corolla for 2014

Why am'i not excited after reading the ACI link? I personally don't like the Etios kind of front facia one bit! The front and rear together don't look good either. And as for improving the driveability of the 1.4 by adding VGT, hard to comment without actually driving it.

Suppose this looks like somewhat distant cousin to the old Honda Civic. The lines seem to be very similar and hopefully they put in a bigger capacity Diesel Engine instead of the 1.4 which has prompted many prospective buyers away from it. However the existing engine seems to be a good hit with Taxis as many swear by the performance of the engine. They claim a steady cruise of 125 kays on the highways with a very strong performance in city traffic.

Re: New Toyota Corolla for 2014

What is happening to the design philosophy of the 3 Japs ?! New civic design is downright boring, Suzuki SX4 looks like Indigo and now this new Corolla inspired by Etios!

I drove the Elantra and the Altis back to back. The driveability of the Altis is far better than the Elantra. The lower RPM torque is better in the Altis and the build adds to the overall feel.

The 6th gear can only be engaged in on the open road and you can keep the engine just running at 100+ km/hr.

After this back to back, wondering where the 30+ extra bhp of the Elantra is doing what it needs to do.

Strongly agree to it, but it does run out of breath when you try to hit north of 140s. For a car that is very well built going at 100s makes you feel like you are actually peddling around 60s. The car can take it much more than just doing those low figures which is my point of grouse.

But drive ability is something for which it sets standards amongst its competition.

Re: New Toyota Corolla for 2014

I think with the numbers the current Altis is doing, Toyota is confident enough to not launch the Altis with a more powerful engine. The D segment is anyways not seeing much action in the market today and Altis as a car generally doesn't figure on a enthusiasts shopping list.

Re: New Toyota Corolla for 2014

I like the look of the new Corolla and I hope the rendering done by Autocar India comes into production.

Lots of members here would disagree but I feel Toyota should give a minor facelift to the Altis and keep it on sale in India even after the new Furia is launched. If they move the Altis lower, it still has great potential to compete with the likes of Verna etc.

Even Skoda's planning to keep on selling the Laura after the new Octy comes later this year.

Re: New Toyota Corolla for 2014

If you've noticed carefully, manufacturers seem to be keen on making their lower offering look like their better offering with every iteration.

Hyundai made the Verna look like the Elantra
Honda made their City look like the Civic
Toyota is making Corolla look like Camry

All these cars have gone from looking like Hyundai Accent to what they are today.

And then the better offering is made to look like their best offering and so.. on.
