re: Virtus, the 2018 VW Polo sedan (Vento replacement). EDIT: Now unveiled

What I suspected could come true. VW has been pushing up their costs of all models across their line-up.

If this gets launched, expect VW to retire the Vento, replace it with this and price it somewhere between Vento and Jetta territory. They'll then push up the Ameo to plug that price gap. Suddenly, Ameo will cost what Vento costs today and Virtus will cost somewhere in Jetta territory.

Smoove, VW! Looks like your MBAs are doing their job right!

Re: VW Virtus to replace Vento in India

Volkswagen does not need a technical partnership with Tata Motors if they plan to launch new Polo, T-Cross, Virtus, etc. They are world leaders in vehicle development, have poured 50 billion GBP to invent the MQB kit which allows them to build any shape or class of vehicle. Nowhere in the world has Volkswagen relied on platforms or technologies of other OEMs.

VW doesn't seem to be having plans to bring the MQB to India, and it certainly looks like they are going to rely on Tata's AMP to renew Polo and Vento. So don't expect Virtus or any other model here, unless VW sanctions resources for the Indian factory to be tooled for MQB vehicles.

Reminds me of a certain Chevrolet. The downfall starts when you start planning cheaper stuff just for the Indian market.

I would be happier if they bring the MQB platform based cars for a higher cost, while keeping the TATA based ones at a lower entry level pricing. For example- TATA AMP platform based compact sedan priced below the MQB Polo and leave it up to the market to decide which one they would like to purchase.

re: Virtus, the 2018 VW Polo sedan (Vento replacement). EDIT: Now unveiled

My take on this is that in India, VW and Skoda will exchange places over the next few years, with VW bringing in more premium international models based on MQB, while Skoda either by itself or in partnership with Tata will design and manufacture models for the B and C segments. This is not saying that Skoda will completely pull the plug on the affordable luxury theme in India, but it would certainly pull them down in the premiumness perception hierarchy. India is a rare exception to how VW and Skoda are stacked up globally, and the Germans do not like aberrations in their perfect world.

Spoke to a couple of guys at VW, both of them separately confirmed that no new car launches definitely for 2018.

These renders gives some idea what the Virtus might look like, where we see cues from the latest Jetta (taillights) and Passat (tailgate) being grafted onto the elongated body of the Mk6 Polo hatchback.

IF EVER we get the GEN NEXT VENTO .... then this is it! Link

The red VIRTUS appears to be the TRENDLINE while the black is the HIGHLINE.

Will use the new version 1.0 TSI engine, with 128 horsepower and torque kgfm 20.4, always coupled to automatic transmission Tiptronic 6-speed. Could also be available with the 1.6l engine and MT.

I was seriously considering the Vento to replace my City in the next 6 months. But is there any specific timeline for its launch in India. If its gonna come by March 2018 than I can wait. Another worrying point for me if I select the Vento now is than I'll be buying a car which is essentially 6 years old and at the end of its life cycle. So wanted to know more about its possible launch date for India.

Ok thanks for the update. So in that case would you recommend a TSI Highline plus version currently even if an entire new one is expected in 2019? I keep my cars for a minimum 7 yrs. Also the lack of Android Auto and IOS Car play in the current version is a negative too.
