Was the oil change at 5k or 10 k optional ? Or does Honda recommend an oil change every 5k km ?

Honda recommends,
  • Replacing engine oil every 5,000Km
  • Replacing engine oil filter every 10,000Km
100ml engine oil costs around Rs 625. Oil filter costs around Rs. 100.

Which oils is that? Was it a typo or true? Is it 1ltr?

Very much confused here. First of all why does Honda need an oil change every 5K if it is using an oil which costs Rs.625 for a litre (I still believe Rs.625 for 100ml is a typo, else what on earth is that?), which, most probably, would be a costly synthetic oil?

The cost of oil for your 5K service was Rs 548. But it was 626 at 10K but again came back to 548 at 15K service. Why? If you changed oil every 5K, the oil price should be same. Then again, if you changed oil every 5K KM and the oil price is Rs.625 per litre or per 100ml (again ) , does honda need only very less amount of oil? Your service bills says it consumed oil for a price of Rs.625 or less always.

Is Honda NHC is filled with Synthetic oil by A.S.S? What is the company recommended oil?

Default Miscellaneous Costs

Other costs:

Somewhere near Gundulpet, on a narrow road, the oncoming car's mirror hit mine (sorry, we both hit each other's mirrors). Mirror came off. Electrical assembly was working fine. Only the mirror had to be replaced.
Cost: Rs 338.4
PS: I was driving windows up and the mirror just crumpled and fell off. Other car's mirror broke into pieces and flew into the car. Luckily, no one was hurt.

But RHS mirror's life was short lived. Withing a month, stuck in traffic jam, a TATA 207 wants to squeeze through - hits my mirror assembly and the whole unit came off. Driver apologised and pleaded not to inform his owner. The whole mirror assembly was replaced and they returned the broken unit.
Cost: Rs 2580 (Part: 1,744, Labour: 550)

Got Shift Lock set installed. Pictures here (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/699717-post53.html (Gearlock))
Cost: Rs 4,254

Thats about it.

The amount of oil that goes in increases when you change the filter. I think that should explain the difference.

Ya, could be a typo in the invoice. But in all oil change invoices? Could be a problem with their computer. I will check with service center next time.

I remember reading somehere that Honda remommends oil change every 5,000Km for dusty regions . Maybe thats so.

Honda uses Mineral engine oil, not Synthetic.

I think 1744/- for an electric mirror assembly is quite reasonable compared to the other cars this size. Would be nice if other members pls share your experiences.

Yes.

And iDSI engine needs 3.6 liters of oil if filter is changed and 3.4 liters if filter is not changed.

The cost is Rs. 143.7/liter + 12.5% VAT + 4% Octroi.

So for every service where oil filter is changed, the oil cost is:
3.6 * 143.7 * 1.165 = Rs. 602

For every service where oil filter is not changed, oil cost is:
3.4 * 143.7 * 1.165 = Rs. 569

Sources:
1. My regular service bills from Deccan Honda
2. City Gxi Owner Manual, page 229

Note: All prices are ex-Pune.

Your costs are all ok. For every 5K kms if you are spending only 2000 bucks as an average which includes oil change, then its pretty much ok. Labour charge for 20K is a bit high. I remember being charged 750/- for my Civic for the 10K service.

For the NHC it is recommended to change oil every 5000kms and for the Civic its 10000 kms. However I remember reading in this forum that its good practice to change once every 5000 kms.

Also Honda uses Standard mineral oil as someone rightly pointed out. Its not synthetic like Skoda. (Explains the high service cost in Skoda)

Some dealers actually charge extra for a normal washing and cleaning of the car during service. In Honda its usually inclusive.
