TDs & Experiences till booking Dzire Diesel ZDI

Here is a brief on my experiences till I decided on Swift Dzire ZDI

Existing Indica Turbo DLG Dec 2005 :- Satisfied with the car, unhappy with TATA Service @ Fortune, Powai.

Anyways:- thought of buying a car in January 2008 (Criteria VFM, preferably with ABS and approval by wife) budget max 10L

1. Swift Vxi & Vdi TD:- TD in February 2008 Liked it especially the diesel, disappointed with boot space (looked half that of Indica). Wife: Thumbs down (said doesnt want hatchback)

2. SX4 TD :- Great VFM, comfortable & fantastic ground clearance, but my parents own one and mileage 10Km/L (Mileage put me off as I drive close to 80KM per day). Wife: Thumbs up

3. Honda city Showroom visit :- Sleek car both interior & exterior, but not VFM. Wife: Thumbs up

4. Fiesta Diesel TD :- V. Good and quiet engine, comfortable driver's seat. Wasnt sure if its VFM, doubts over the cost of maintenance/spares. Wife: Thumbs up

5. Logan Diesel DLS TD:- bland interior / exterior, comfortable seats, quiet and good engine, amazing suspension, Wife : Thumbs down

6. Safari TD:- (persuaded my wife to accompany me for TD) Felt amazing in the drivers seat, felt like king of the road, noisy but powerful engine, not practical for city driving. Wife: BIG Thumbs down

7. Verna Petrol TD: Quiet engine, seats not comfortable, overall OK car. Wife: Thumbs down

8. Verna Diesel TD:- This care is all about engine. I LOVED IT. Its quiet & refined with loads of power. Found it overpriced. Wife: Wishing this engine was in SX4.

9. Dzire TD: Was tracking this car online, when the prices came in decided to visit. Went to two Maruti showroom took 2 test drives, on the second test drive my wife also drove.

Drove at 100KMPH and jammed on brake, ABS was reassuring. Pickup & engine response was same as swift DDSI, drove in bylanes & found it easy to drive especially by wife.

Rear seating improved by making rear seat back curved like SX4. Boot acceptable space, boot lever/bar intruded in to luggage space, Looked good to me, had all the features at VFM package. Wife: Thumbs up (but found the car small & cramped, voted for SX4 over Dzire).

Thought for a day between ZDI & VDI. Booked Dzire ZDI (Silver) at Vitesse Lokhandwala- Mumbai, no discounts, 4-5 weeks waiting.

Cooool...I hope the dealer knows what he is talking about (or, I hope you know the dealer personally), coz in Delhi the waiting period for Dzire diesel has been quoted to be 3 months.

I do not know him personally. Both dealership Autovista at Bandra and Vitesse at Lokhandwala quoted 4-5 weeks waiting, may be deliveries are being alloted region wise or may be the dealerships have taken a commitment to sell certain numbers and therefore the availability.

By the way the dealerships told me black is the hot selling colour followed by blue in Dzire. Both told me they have booked over 30 Dzires in 2 days. 70% + bookings for diesel variants

Saw many families coming for test drive on a working day afternoon, some taking snaps. Waiting in line for TD approx 30mins.

Congrats man, not for the car, but for going against your wifey's vote. Just kidding, actually the Dzire ZDi is a more sensible choice.

My wife liked Dzire too, but did let me know that she would any day go for SX4 over Dzire if spaciousness & comfortable wide seats were the criteria.
But YES I had to do a bit of convincing for Dzire

congrats dude,

i really think you've made the right choice by plonking for the z version of the car, since it comes with all the bits that are really important. i.e - abs / airbags (?)

hope it takes less than the 4-5 weeks you've been told - the itch to own a new car is irrisistable isin't it?

look forward to hearing how you get on with her when she arrives.

cheers and drive safe...

Choosing between the two variants VDI & ZDI was a bit of a juggle. Visually very few differences seen.

Interior - A.C control (manual/automatic) & Steering controls.
Exterior - Wheels (alloys and tyres).

After some thought we decided even though the visual difference is not what we would pay for but definitly yes for ABS & Airbags.

Safety features are definitly bearing on mind nowadays when buying a car, never thought of those while buying my cars earlier. [I have owned in the past : Maruti 800, Zen & Accent]

@ Liberal Congrats &Good Choice. Zdi is more sensible choice. Dzire is a great VFM.I expected VDI to come with beige interiors. Since even Indigo now comes with Beige ( Not sure about CS). Now i guess Tata will be waiting to launch the New indigo soon!

Visual difference too little between vdi and zdi!Didnt you notice the beige interior for zdi and blue gray for the vdi?
Nice discription of the feelings for the different cars.Did you see the white one, looks terrific.Silver is a good choice though.

Congrats buddy,

For me its a VFM package, though it is missing the Electrically adjustable outside rear view mirror control.

Also i didnt like the black colored A piller, is it a way to remove it ? ( do we really need this for a Sedan?)

Congratulations liberal. What is the on road price you are paying for the ZDI? Also what alloys are standard. Is it new design or those from the Swift?

I went for test drive of DZire today. One thing about its looks good in flesh. Doesnt look bad in flesh. Not a looker but in White and Silver the way the cars were stading looked just great. In black the car looks small like Indigo CS.

The dealer here has already sold his first lot and bookings for the next lot is starting from Tuesday. My friend is thinking of getting VXi as his running is just 10k km per year and 95% city drives. Though i wished there was a option for ABS but to him it doesn't matter much.

I just had a TD of Swift DZire ZDi.
Integrated Audio System is OK with MGA speakers.
It has all gizmos with crimson backlight.
Power Mirrors is missing :(
Defn some revamp in ECU for low RPM driving.
The experience i had with DZire is incomparable to what i had with Swift earlier especially its low end torque.
with 5 passengers, car never had any problem while TD in very heavy traffic.it zipped astonishingly.
Never felt am driving a car with trunk.
defn 3 passengers is no no in rear.
But very comfortable for 2 feels like big car.
Any how Maruti did a great job.i loved it so muchhhhhhhhhhhh
Seriously Exterior looks good
Chennai OTR prices
VDi - 6,15,674
ZDi - 7,08,098
