Rumour: Tata Motors to bring Aria Automatic to Auto Expo

Tata Motors’ Aria crossover has been selling at a very slow pace. While the company has managed to move just 85 units out of the showrooms over the last six months, it has not given up on its flagship.

In an attempt to boost the Aria’s appeal, Tata Motors has given the car a makeover, which included changes to the exterior, interior and mechanicals. If a report on CarToq is to be believed, the reworked Aria will be displayed at the Auto Expo in February.

The exterior of the facelifted Aria is expected to feature new set of smoked projector headlights at the front and a new tail-lamp cluster at the rear. It is also likely that Tata Motors will give the car a fresh set of alloy wheels.

On the inside, Tata Motors has altered the car's seating configuration. The rear bench seat has been replaced by two captain seats. The quality of the plastics and upholstery is expected to be improved.

Under the hood, the facelifted Aria will get the same 2.2-litre, DiCOR engine that does duty in the current Aria. However, it is expected to be tweaked to churn out 155 PS and 400 Nm of torque, which is a gain of 15 PS and 80 Nm. The car is also likely to get a 6-speed automatic transmission, which is said to be sourced from General Motors.

The automatic is likely to be launched in April 2014 and will sit at the top of the Aria range.
