Re: Tata Safari 4x4 The Off Road, and No road journeys

With winters still here, atleast in PB and HR freezing, its a good time to put some "white pics"
This was around Xmas 2013.
Roads were closed. Not another vehicle in sight. Perfect opportunity to play in snow

20 inches overnight. Everything buried. Thankfully, she started on the first crank

We walk down towards the road. And all we find is this cow

Perfect time for some snow action

OMG, the car looks fantastic in those pics, wish we would have snow in this part of India too :(

BTW, how is the performance of the Cross contacts on snow / ice ?

Absolutely brilliant.
The grooves are very deep.
However, on ice, no AT works. You will need chains. Or studded snow tires

Thanks Prowler. Please do not call me sir. Just Tanveer will do
These pics were taken near Narkanda on the village road which goes towards Thanedar. It was a 1.5 day trip for us

Great. For me - you have earned that epithet - Sir - because of all your adventurous journeys and the way you write about them. You are a source of inspiration - a Leader. I set aside the time to pore over your writings and drool over your magnificent photos.

It has nothing to do with age. I am sure you are much younger than me.

Re: Tata Safari 4x4 The Off Road, and No road journeys

Thanks Tanveer. Excellent pictures as always. Most of them wallpaper material.

I will risk saying this - you are perhaps the alter ego for hundreds of us on this forum, who dream of packing up and heading out into such beautiful locales. With A Safari, of course!

I can only imagine the thrills, the troubles, the trials, you've had to go through to undertake these journeys and post such wonderful (wallpaper) pictures for us. Thank you! Looking at these pictures, one thing is cemented in my mind - The Safari may not do many things, but what it does, it does the best. So, here's one to many more of your journeys and many more pictures for us to drool on.

There is one thing that I have been meaning to ask though - What is the effect of so much snow/ice on the brakes? In many pictures we see that there is snow in the brake discs. Does this cause a lot of damage?

Thanks for your kind words.
Ice is well... water. It melts. And disk brakes anyways do not have much trouble with water. However, when you brake in snow, you just slide.
Even on the Liva I have driven in snow, and not found it to be an issue for the brakes per se, however, with ABS, sometimes braking performance is even worse because it does not lock up and you do not have the snow pile up in front of the tires which aids in stopping.
On non ABS no such issue.

Hi, Mr Tanveer you definitely ride like a fauji.
I had always wanted to write as how much you inspire me to own a 4x4 Safari, but stopped myself as being a novice in this vast world of 4x4 motoring. But today when I saw that you have written that there is problem regarding permit in Sikkim and the local taxi thing, I couldn't help writing.

Have you thought about Arunachal? For that matter, the Northeast. Inner line permit for all the NE states are easily made in Guwahati. Plus as you are a avid photographer, there is a lot of opportunity there. As for drive through UP and Bihar is not that bad except for a few patches.

I've drive from Gandhinagar to Guwahati in a Alto in 2010 and drove a Manza from Guwahati to Sri Ganganagar last Apr with the better half Both the time a different route through Bihar and different experiences.

Please do come over to NE and experience it in first hand.
