My dear nephews 2 year birthday party is on 8th (Sat) or 9th (sun)
(birthday is 10th Jan).

So I will be there but may have to leave early which is fine with me.

Re: 2010 Mumbai OTR Season - Plans & discussions

Thanks Jay! I also received couple of phone calls to help me out with the recce and I am really thankful.
However I want to keep this trail unknown for a larger benefit, so to say "classified"
Hence ,only 2 friends coming with me to see if the trail is appropriate.
I hope , I make myself clear.

Re: 2010 Mumbai OTR Season - Plans & discussions

Did a recee last saturday.
Following are our findings:
  1. Wilderness trail leading through mountains, fields and dep rural interiors could be done in 2wd.
  2. At many places vehicles have to move through dense thorny bushes which scratch the exterior of the vehicles.
  3. We got permission from almost all the villages to pass through :however at some crucial junctures ,private landowners refused to let vehicles pass.
In conclusion we would have to curtail the long "dirt trail" and plan only an excursion in the vicinity of Alibag.

So how much of the trail can be done by a 2wd vehicle?
Have any tentative dates been decided? I would very much like to attend!

Re: 2010 Mumbai OTR Season - Plans & discussions

Looks like this OTR has been jinxed.

On 8th Jan there is a agitation here against setting up of coal-powered electricity plants.

This will include a "raasta roko" etc.

The police has warned not to do any program on this day as there is a "jamao-baandi" , 20 to 25 odd vehicles moving in a convoy would attract hooligans and police as well.

So as of date this OTR stands postponed till further notice.
