what rims are these and how wide they are? I guess the advantage with the gypsy rim is it is cheap and can comfotably handle tyre of 235 width. Barring alloys and the OE rims of the 540's, i think the only available option in 16 inch will be the army rims. Don't know whether they will be suitable for classic.
-regards,

I'm really not sure which vehicle rims are they, any clue?

How will the BF Goodrich AT 16" work for CL340 and Classic, on 16" Army rims, guess with tube??

Behram Sir looking forward to your feedback on earlier topic of Brute?

16" army rims are to narrow for most radial tyres and they will need valve seat adaptors too. You should go for alloys and tubeless tyres if the budget permits.

Asking a basic question -- just to be sure for some of the calculations required for one of my mods

Q: If we increase the rim size from say 5.5J to 7J, then the track width of the vehicle would increase by 1.5" effectively? (assuming 0 off-set)?

Track will not change as long as the offset of the two rims is the same. Track is measured from the centerline of the wheel.

Alfa, Can you please explain what is a Valve Seat Adapter and its application? Why is it important to use it? Is it easily available in the market? I am planning to fit 255/65R16 Geolander ATs with a tube on MM550 army rims.

Good that clarifies it for my calculations.

Now for just general awareness, if the track width doesn't increase, then where does that extra 1.5" go when we go from 5.5J to 7J? (again assuming 0 offset)

It just increases the contact area of the tyres with the ground.

The wheel extends 0.75" on either side of the mounting face. So if installed with wider tyres, the inner clearance will reduce, which may cause tyre fouling when cross axled. The turning circle may increase too.

Any views or reviews about Goodyear Wrangler AT'S 255/70/R15. 2008 made are available for 5000 each tubeless. Ithink one of the NIOC Jeeper in Red Classic has these tyres. How is the performance?

Also if we buy alloys with negetive offset for them then do they fit without any other alteration.

My another question is are 235 R15 available in 80 or 85 hight?

*5 section are only availabe in 16" as far as I am aware. Wide tyres (255) on a light vehicle like yours will be quite useless except on soft sand. You should look for narrow and tall tyres.

Hi everyone,

Well finally yesterday i got the time to drop my tyres off at the workshop in Jaipur and also see them fitted for the first time.

Here are some pics of the same.

Cheers !!!!!!!!

3. Since 550/540s are 139 PCD, you cannot find matching 16" alloys/rims that are wider. You have the option of going for 15" alloys or changing the PCD of the jeep hubs to 160 PCD. I am been told by 4x4addict (on t-bhp) that you can get the Bolero 4x4 hubs put on the jeep to make it 160 PCD. See pic below of 4x4addict's jeep with 235/70R16 on Scorpio rims (using bolero hubs).

Guys - Let me know if any of the above info is not correct. Hope this is helpful is clearing any confusion.

Hello,
Can someone explain if this can be done on a CJ3B? If so, how should I go about it? Which parts will I have to replace? Hub, brake drum, etc..

I would really like to keep 16" wheels and change to 160 PCD for a better choice in alloys.

Need not change any part. Just get a spacer made. I too have done the same thing, got 1" spacers made it gets fitted on the original Jeep hub and the tyres get fitted on the new 160 pcd bolts.

Cheers !!!!!!
