For some measurements and calculations visit post nos 554 and 560 on pages 37 and 38 respectively.

Thanks. Looking at the snap and description in post 554 I have a suspicion that he measured backspace not offset. Now I wonder if he got the inside/outside wrong in post 560 as well ...?

When measuring backspace the inner side needs to be placed upside, and it looks that that's what was done.

Can the folks double check that?

Yes he did measure backspace and frontspace in post 554 and calculated offset in post 560.

I bought my wheels based on these measurements only.

Now that the stock wheels have 100MM backspace and stock tyre size is 205/70R15, and you will be using 215/75R15 with CFLs which are wider than stock leafs, so reduce the backspacing about 15mm on account of broad CFLs and another 10-15mm on account of tyres with bigger diameter. Now you need wheels that have backspace of 75mm or lower.

Hope this helps.

The tyre will remain the same 215/75/R15. I just want wider rims. The recommended rim (on Yoko site) for 215/75s are 5.5J to 8J.

Edt: Whats your clearance from inner wheel to leaf at full right steering lock currently?

I cannot tell the clearance now as my ride is at the paintshop.

I suggest you go for 15X7J wheel in such an offset, that the backspace of the wheel is about 75mm. Just check the backspacing on a 15X7J with -20 offset, I think it will fit your need perfectly.

After reading on this thread and elsewhere on the net, it looked like Gypsy rims, with its 139.7 mm PCD 5 bolt pattern was the correct match for the mm540, albeit with a Negative offset(thereby pushing the tyres away from the leaf springs).
Since I was looking for a low-cost alternative, the Gypsy rims were the most appealing. Hence I bought a set of 5 rims at Rs 1190/- each. I got the rims yesterday, and i ran some quick measurements to try and gauge the offset.

Here are some pics:

Measuring the PCD plate from the inner part of the rim:
Attachment 143361

From the above, it seems to me,from a pure common-sense perspective, that the Offset seems to be Positive, which means that the tyres will be pushed towards the inside of the vehicle, i.e towards the leaf springs. Comments please.

Thanks, hope this helps.

Here are my calculations -

5.5J rims from bead to bead make 6.5" from flange lip to lip. Centerline would be 6.5/2 or 3.25". A +10mm offset would make 3.25+0.39=3.64" or 92.45mm of backspace. Not the exact 100mm of backspace as show in in the pic 143361 above.

The backspace would have to be 3.93" (7.55mm more) to make that 100mm or 10cm seen in pic. 3.25" center line with a (0.69" or ) +17.75mm offset would make 100mm of backspace as seen in pic.

Maybe the measuring points for mount pad and assumption of +1 inch for flange lip is incorrect?

AFAIK the current market price is around 6.5K per tyre for Apollo bullets & MRF sang grips.

as they are not in to production now.:Frustrati

but a different company is producing them & they are available at cheaper rates.

if there is no dealer of ATF tyres in Hyderabad then pune dealer can send it there.

i bought them @ 4.5K for a set of tyre+tube+transportation. (22,500/- for set of 5)

only transportation cost will be added for Hyderabad so IMO it will cost 4.6K in Hyderabad.

if you want send me a PM with your contact details & i will forward it to the PUNE dealer.

rgds,
Nikhil

Guys need some urgent help. I'm on the lookout for 16" MT tyres for a friends THAR and am running pillar to post trying to source them. Nobody seems to have stock of any MT tyres (Yoko, Maxxis etc.). Can someone help or point me to someplace?? Need the same for an upcoming OTR.

Thanks for the guidance
But I'll be going for a known brand. After a lot of opinions I change my mind, as life and performance can be low in the long run of such brands and the jeep I'm rebuilding will be my daily drive so I don't want to take any chances.

Thanks anyway.

1.) Anybody know for sure if in fact BFG all terrain are no longer sold in India?

2.) Are there any tyre shops in India you would trust to order on line or over the phone, giving credit card info etc. and trusting them to ship them to you?

@Dirty Dan i tried for a full month and came accross only one answer that due to some BIS norms or some other norms that tyre which has not got isi number cant be sold in india legally but they will be back in 6 months time according to most sellers, as demand is high but ofcourse there will be some price increase

Has anyone tried these tyres in jeep. This is from MRF's Light truck range
